Madrid, Apr 30 (EFE).- Real Madrid scored twice in the last eight minutes of regulation here Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund, but it wasn't enough to erase the 4-1 advantage the visitors racked up in last week's first leg in Germany.
The Spanish side won the day 2-0, but Dortmund advanced to the Champions final by 4-3 on aggregate.
This is the third straight year that Real Madrid has seen hopes for a record 10th Champions League title shattered in the semis.
With their backs against the wall, los Blancos played their best soccer of the season and kept Dortmund pinned in their own end for most of the first 15 minutes.
But the Cinderella team of the 2012-2013 Champions League competition withstood the onslaught.
The second half saw Dortmund take the initiative on offense and the team's top striker, Robert Lewandowski, had two solid chances within the space of single minute.
The capacity crowd at Madrid's Sebastian Bernabeu stadium was becoming extremely nervous and coach Jose Mourinho began making substitutions, sending in Kaka and Karim Benzema about 12 minutes into the half.
The home fans' anxiety turned to rapture with eight minutes left in regulation, when Benzema scored on a pass from Luka Modric.
A reinvigorated Real Madrid besieged the Dortmund goal and Sergio Ramos made it 2-0 for the Spanish club in the 89th minute, but the visitors held on through the five minutes of added time to gave themselves a chance for a second Champions League crown.
Borussia Dortmund will be making only its second appearance in the final when it takes the field at London's Wembley Stadium on May 25 to face either FC Barcelona or German archrivals Bayern Munich.Social Media for Business here
